Celebrate Lunar New Year at the Wing Luke Museum

February 1st marks the beginning of a new year on the lunar calendar. The Wing Luke Museum in Seattle’s International District will be holding a celebration, but as with many things, it looks a little different this year.

The Lunar New Year Fair will take place outside on the Chong Wa Playfield, behind the museum, on the corner of 8th Avenue and S Weller Street.

This is a family friendly event, with a Year of the Tiger photo booth, and a craft booth where you can make and take a new year decoration. Storytime on the stage takes place at 12:30 pm, and Lion Dance talks take the remaining time slots on the stage.

Community organizations will have tables set up on the playfield, including the Seattle Public Library, the Chong WA Benevolent Association, and the National Parks Service, among others.

The fair starts at 11:00 am and runs through 3: pm. The last Lion Dance talk starts at 2:30 pm. Attendance is free, but if you want to check out the exhibits or take place in a special museum scavenger hunt, you will need to pay the normal entrance fee.

Adults get into the museum for $17, seniors pay $15, students aged 13 to 18 pay $12.50, kids from 5 to 12 cost $10 and under 5 is free. The museum is open from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, and is located at 719 S King Street.

2022 marks the Year of the Tiger in the Chinese Zodiac, which ends January 21st, 2023.
