The Evergreen State Fair Is Coming Up

    2023-08-18

The Evergreen State Fair is still the kind of fair that people remember from their childhoods, even if it’s a lot bigger than most of the local county fairs we recall from years past. Fair officials want it that way. The fair has been going strong for 114 years and this year promises to be as good as it’s ever been.

For 11 days in August and September, the fair takes place at the Evergreen State Fair Park in Monroe. The fair starts on Thursday, August 24th, and the only day the fair is closed is on Wednesday, August 30th. The fair’s last day is always on Labor Day. This year, that’s on September 4th.

Animals have always been a big part of the fair, and this year is no exception. Livestock displays and horse shows take place, and three days of rodeo are a big attraction. The rodeo takes place from September 2nd through the 4th. Complementing the animals are agricultural displays, master gardener talks, a lumberjack show, and more.

The Grandstand will feature big name musical acts, monster trucks, and a laser show, among other things. Don’t miss the Demo Derby and fireworks show on September 3rd. But, you’ll find lots more music and happenings scattered all around the grounds, and fireworks will go off on opening night.

A good fair includes a carnival, and this is a big one, with both hair-raising, thrilling rides and rides suitable for the little ones, like a traditional carousel and a teacup ride.

There’s much more going on – too much to list here – so check out the website for more information, like schedules and parking. You can purchase spots for an RV and make a vacation of it. Tickets start at $13, with a general weekend admission costing $18. You can get discounts buy purchasing online before the fair, and BECU members can get an additional discount.
