Hōkūleʻa's Pacific Odyssey Bringing it to Seattle and Tacoma

    2023-08-26

Don’t miss a rare event this weekend and into next week. The traditional deep sea voyaging canoe set sail from its home base in Hawaii and officially started a four year journey in Juneau, Alaska on June 15th. The circumnavigation of the Pacific Ocean includes stops in Seattle and Tacoma.

It should be noted that the canoe – built almost 50 years ago – is a recreation of ancient vessels, and the crew uses traditional navigation methods.

The canoe enters Elliot Bay around 8:00 am and will dock at Pier 62 at 9:45 am on Saturday, August 26th. After that it will dock at the Bell Harbor Marina, and you can take a tour while it’s there.

On Wednesday, August 30th, they set off for Tacoma, where they’ll be welcomed at the Foss Waterway Seaport Museum. They’ll also have tour opportunities while docked there.

Check the website for more events taking place, the map of their travels, and more.
