The Biggest Wooden Boat Festival in North America Takes Place in Port Townsend

    2023-09-04

For the 46th year Port Townsend will host the Wooden Boat Festival from September 8-10, 2023. Dozens of boats, from dinghies and hand built kayaks to schooners and power boats, and every other type of wooden boat you can think of is represented here. Maybe even some you haven’t thought of. Like an electric powered bamboo SUP.

The festival takes place at the Point Hudson Marina and the Northwest Maritime Center. Parking is a challenge during normal times, so check the festival’s website page for transportation options. Single day adult tickets are $25 but you can visit all three days for $50. Kids 12 and under get in free, and discounts are available for teens, seniors and active military members. Tickets are available online.

There are multiple ways to tour boats and get out on the water during the festival. Check the schedule schedule for demonstrations, workshops, talks, and activities for kids which include free rides on pint-sized boats. Several bands and performers are slated for entertainment. There are too many activities going on over the three days to come close to listing them all, so do a deep dive on the website and plan a great day trip or weekend getaway.
