Mini Train Adventures: Free Rides for Kids and Adults

If you need something fun and free to do with the kids from springtime through the fall, consider taking them on a free train ride. You have two choices of trains and locations. Keep in mind these are short rides on model trains, so if you want to make a day of it you'll have to find other things to do in the area.

The Great Northern & Cascade Railway

Located in Skykomish, this 7.5” gauge railroad offers free train rides every weekend through October. The scenic ride goes through a tunnel and over bridges, and takes around 10 minutes. You can ride more than once. The location also has a museum.

Kitsap Live Steamers

In Port Orchard you can take a beautiful trip through the woods every 2^nd and 4^th Saturday through October. They also offer a few extra dates for free rides, including this Memorial Day, 5/27. Expect the ride to last for 10 to 12 minutes.
