Alleged rapist’s trial moved to October
GREENVILLE — Ciro Rivera, 42, of Greenville, filed for a continuance on his case. Judge Travis L. Fliehman presided. Rivera is on trial in the Court of Darke County Common Pleas for an alleged rape, a felony of the first degree. On July 26, following his bond hearing, Rivera’s defense attorney, David Rohrer, filed a motion for continuance on his client’s behalf. The trial was originally set for July 30 and 31.
Independent scientist looking into environmental testing following Piqua battery burns
Nearly a year since the end of the lithium-ion battery testing program in Piqua, residents held an environmental symposium to discuss the potential effects of this exposure. Piqua had ordered water and soil testing. These results indicate no lasting contamination from the battery tests, but residents are concerned the testing was not comprehensive enough.

5 shot over weekend as Toledo's struggles to limit gun violence continue
Three teenagers were among five people shot over the weekend in the city of Toledo as the city continues to grapple with gun violence, particularly among youths. Two teens playing basketball outside of Waite High School, boys ages 15 and 17, were wounded about 8 p.m. Saturday when someone drove past the basketball court firing multiple shots. They were taken to Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center for treatment. Earlier Saturday, about 3:15 p.m., an 18-year-old was shot near Richards and Amsterdam roads. He was taken to ProMedica Toledo Hospital. About 7 p.m. Friday, a 32-year-old man was shot in the 900 block of North Huron Street, and just after 1 a.m. on Saturday morning, a 27-year-old man was found with multiple gunshot wounds on the 5300 block of Fleet Road. Both men were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
THIS YEAR'S REID RIDE WILL BE THE LAST
(Richmond, IN)--This year’s Reid Ride, which is coming up on August 10, will be the last. In a statement Monday, Reid did not indicate specifically why the event was coming to an end but did indicate that they will move next year to celebrate wellness in a different way. The Reid Ride began in 2009 with bicyclists pedaling across Wayne County. In that time, more than 7000 riders have helped to raise more than three quarters of a million dollars to purchase more than 20,000 pairs of shoes. Reid says it will release more information about its new event in the months ahead.
