Local acts set to light up the stage in Jackson County

MARIANNA, Fla. ( WMBB ) – Thirty different acts are ready to take the Chipola College stage this week for the 6th annual “Southern Lights Productions: The Search for a Star” talent show.

Opening night is on Thursday, July 11th but you can check out the action on Friday, July 12th, and Saturday, July 13th as well.

The show begins at 6:30 p.m. every night but event organizers recommend you get there early to secure a seat.

Tickets are $15 for one night or $35 for a three-day pass.

Over the years this talent show has given local performers from Georgia, Alabama, and Florida the opportunity to showcase their talents to a larger audience in a family-friendly setting.

“We want to be able to do something to be able to give people with family-friendly talents an opportunity to do something with their talent,” said Charlie Dykes of Southern Lights Productions. “There is a lot of great talent right here in our backyard. So to be able to showcase that and give those people an opportunity to see what else is out there, I mean it’s gold, that’s what it’s all about.”

Some of this year’s acts include singers, dancers, magicians, and comedians.

All the performers are competing for more than just bragging rights as well, a scholarship to Chipola College, record deals, and a $10,000 cash prize are all on the line.
