Santa Rosa Springs to lose main entrance, gain painful detour

Santa Rosa Springs residents are in for a big surprise if they don’t read this story.

It’s a 2.5-mile, six-minute shocker if you live deep within that small community’s confines.

On June 26 and 27, a City of Maricopa roadwork contractor will close Iron Point Road at the main entrance into the community to replace asphalt.

“Travelers will experience periods of inconvenience while the contractor is milling out the existing pavement and installing new pavement, and re-striping the roadway,” said city spokesperson Monica Williams.

Williams said roadwork will be done from June 24 to June 28 on North Porter Road from Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway to just past Iron Point Road, south of the railroad tracks.

Milling, repaving and restriping will be done during that period on that North Porter portion, she said.

Then comes the rerouting of traffic, a loop around the neighborhood.

For example, if you live on Luna Drive, expect that 2.5-mile, six-minute ride by taking a left in the opposite direction at Iron Point to Dante Way to Sonoran Desert Parkway, then back up North Porter Road. Going northbound on Porter, you’ll pass the roadwork on your left before you hit Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway. Whew!
