A Juneteenth festival is coming to Central Arizona College’s Maricopa campus this weekend.

Hosted by Kingdom Legacy Weddings and Events, Maricopa’s Juneteenth Festival will take place Saturday from 2 to 7 p.m. in the campus’s A101 and A102 rooms.

Audrey Archibold, business development manager for the multistate event planner, said the festival will celebrate history and community.

“We want to educate people on the past and show how far we have come as a nation, but also focus on community unity,” she said.

Juneteenth commemorates the enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation on June 19, 1865, declaring the freeing of enslaved people two years earlier. The day came to be known as Juneteenth, a portmanteau of “June” and “nineteenth.”

Archibold said in addition to food trucks, vendors and a kid zone, attendees can also expect to see live music and spoken word poetry throughout the day.

“It does focus on Juneteenth, but it’s a chance to bring the community together,” she said. “People in the community can have fun, eat some great food and make new friends. We want everyone to have a good time.”

Admission costs $4 for children and $6 for adults, plus service fees. Tickets can be purchased through the organization’s Eventbrite page .
