Three people were hospitalized in a crash on North Porter Road tonight.

Maricopa police and fire responded to the two-vehicle collision, involving a contractor van and a red SUV, in the northbound lanes of North Porter Road at Homestead Drive just after 9 p.m.

“Two individuals were transported to Valley hospitals with serious injuries, and a third individual was transported as a precaution,” public safety spokesperson Monica Williams said.

Fire crews were seen cutting the doors off the SUV and extracting a person from the passenger seat. Airbags were deployed.

Both vehicles sustained significant damage to their front ends. Fire crews were seen ripping the hoods of both vehicles open.

“The cause of the collision remains under investigation tonight and MPD is anticipated to be on scene into the night as information is gathered,” Williams said.

As of 10 p.m., northbound lanes on Porter Road between Honeycutt and Smith Enke Roads remained closed. Southbound lanes are currently open but may see some restrictions as tow trucks are called in to clear the scene.
