JWP-Smith Enke intersection improvements hit road in August

The City of Maricopa project to improve the intersection of John Wayne Parkway and Smith-Enke Road is expected to begin in mid-August.

“Final dates are dependent on material deliveries,” city spokesperson Monica Williams said today. “We will know more specifics the closer to August we get.”

Construction is expected to take six months. Most of the work will take place to the east of John Wayne Pkwy on Smith Enke Road.

The Intersection improvements will include added safety features, dual left turn lanes, and a dedicated “free flow” right-turn lane onto northbound John Wayne Parkway.

The project is intended to increase the intersection’s capacity to handle higher traffic volumes, city officials said.

Work will primarily occur Mondays through Fridays, during daytime hours, with possible overnight and weekend work.

Access to businesses and neighborhoods will be maintained, officials said.
