Maricopa police arrested a man accused of firing off multiple shots in a Desert Cedars backyard tonight.

Officers arrested 53-year-old Michael Anthony Ramirez on several charges including the negligent discharge of a firearm in city limits, according to MPD spokesperson Monica Williams.

Cops responded to a home in the 44500 block of West Windrose Drive around 9 p.m. when Ramirez’s wife reported she and her husband had gotten into an argument because he was intoxicated.

“At some point during the argument, the man armed himself with a handgun and discharged multiple rounds in the backyard,” Williams said. “When officers arrived on scene, the man exited the home, surrendering the weapon as directed and was taken into custody.”

“Thankfully no one was injured,” Williams added.

This is a breaking story and InMaricopa will provide updates as more information becomes available.
