A man faces child abuse charges after he allegedly slammed his wife’s head into a dresser while she was holding their baby, causing her to drop and injure the child.

Police on Friday arrested 28-year-old James E. Harrison on felony charges of child abuse and child endangerment, and one misdemeanor charge of assault, according to a probable cause statement obtained today by InMaricopa.

Cops responded to a home on West Elm Drive in Rancho El Dorado after Harrison’s wife fled to a neighbor’s house, dialed 911 and told dispatchers she feared her husband was harming their baby.

The bloodied woman told police she was holding her son when Harrison grabbed her by the head and started violently ramming her head into a dresser, which caused her to drop the child. The child also sustained head injuries.

Officers forced their way into the home and found an “erratic” and “hallucinating” Harrison, who was lying on his bed telling officers his knee had disappeared, despite moving both of his legs, according to the police report.

Police noted they believed Harrison was high on “some type of substance” and that he “would be calm, then he would become violent and confrontational.”

The wife and child were transported to a Chandler hospital. Police did not disclose the severity of their injuries. Harrison reportedly refused to let Maricopa Fire and Medical responders evaluate him.

Harrison was booked into the Pinal County jail. He faces more than eight years in prison.
