Shots fired after apparent weed sale gone wrong

A man arrested after firing a gun at a Glennwilde home on Thursday was there to collect weed, a police investigation alleges.

Maricopa Police Department officers charged 40-year-old Joseph A. Norman with weapons misconduct, disorderly conduct and first-degree trespassing, according to a probable cause statement obtained by InMaricopa .

Norman was smoking weed with a female companion at his brother’s home Wednesday night, the police document states. MPD did not disclose the address.

Police responded to that home Thursday morning and broke up a fight between Norman and his female friend. They appeared to be fighting about a weed sale that had gone wrong.

As the woman drove back to her Glennwilde home on West Almira Drive, Norman followed her, according to the police report.

She called 9-1-1 again that afternoon and told dispatchers Norman climbed over her back fence and was banging on her door and windows, yelling that “he wants his money or weed back.” He proceeded to the front door and continued banging and yelling, the report states.

Neighbors told police they saw Norman at the home and heard gunshots before he left. Officers found an empty bullet casing in the driveway, but Norman had fled.

Cops later found Norman near Arvanda Road and Allen Stephens Parkway and placed him in handcuffs. He was carrying a handgun.

Norman was transported to the Pinal County jail. He faces a year-and-a-half behind bars.
