Mom chased son with knife, said she’d ‘kill him’ for not doing chores: cops

A Homestead mother who “disciplined” her son with baseball bat beatings was arrested Sunday after she said she would kill him and chased him with a kitchen knife, according to Maricopa Police Department.

The mother was prepared to take her son’s life because he didn’t do his chores.

Maricopa police nabbed 56-year-old Gloria L. Cobbs on weapons charges, threatening and endangerment, according to a probable-cause statement obtained by InMaricopa.

Cops responded to a West Thornberry Lane home after Cobbs told police dispatchers she wanted her son out of her home and “needs him gone before she kills him,” the report states. Cobbs said her son deserved to die because he didn’t want to wash dishes.

Cobbs’ son also called the police and told dispatchers his mom was chasing him with a knife. Dispatchers noted they heard a woman screaming “give me my bat.”

When police arrived, Cobbs “was screaming” and “extremely upset with her son,” the report states. She denied wielding a knife.

Cobbs’ son, who is presumed to be a juvenile because his name is redacted from police documents, said his mom was angry about the chores and “tried to discipline him with a bat.” He said he wrestled the bat away from her and she responded by grabbing a kitchen knife and chasing him around the house.

“Based on the statements provided during the interviews, the 9-1-1 call audio and the totality of the circumstance, there is probable cause to believe that Gloria threaten [sic.] to kill [her son] and was in possession of a kitchen knife and a bat during the altercation,” the police report states.

Cobbs was booked into the Pinal County jail. She faces two-and-a-half years in prison.
