    East Cobb Students Snag Scholarships

    The East Cobb County Council of Parent Teacher Associations awarded $1,000 scholarships to five seniors graduating from Cobb County Schools.

    The Margie Hatfield Scholarship is named after the former ECCC president, and is granted to students for their service-based initiatives.

    The students recognized not only maintained academic success in their years at one of the east Cobb area high schools, but gave back to their community through time and service.

    This year, 30 students applied across five high schools and five were selected.

    Those students are:

    Andrew Herrera from Kell High School, who will attend Kennesaw State University to study mechanical engineering. Herrera was recognized for maintaining the local BMX (bicycle motocross) track and volunteering at food drives for veterans. Julia Randall from Lassiter High School, who will attend the University of Georgia to study accounting. Randall started The Joy Mission Club at her high school, supporting students who are grieving the loss of a loved one.Ella Jeffres from Pope High School, who will attend Georgia Tech to study history, technology and society. Jeffers was granted the scholarship for her efforts organizing meals for families facing food insecurity and creating hygiene care packages to give to the homeless. Timy Dang from Sprayberry High School, who will attend Georgia State University to study marketing. Dang drew on his Vietnamese-American culture to create murals in his high school's halls. Jennifer He from Walton High School will attend Princeton University to study operations research financial engineering. He was recognized for her efforts distributing school supplies to homeless youth.
