A Cobb grand jury indicted two 18-year-olds accused of bringing a rifle onto the campus of McEachern High School late last year.

Brendan Andino of Douglasville and Ruben Cumberlander of Powder Springs were indicted as co-defendants on charges of carrying weapons within certain school areas, disrupting public school and loitering.

Cumberlander is also accused of involvement in a fight in Powder Springs earlier this month that left 19-year-old Fabrice Robelin dead. No indictments have yet been handed down as a result of that incident, which led to the arrests of six others.

Some time between 10:12 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18, Cumberlander “enter(ed) upon school property with a suspected rifle and had suspected rifle inside a bathroom,” his warrant states.

Andino was accused of “possess(ing) a suspected rifle on McEachern school property causing alarm and endangering students, staff members and parents.”

In a statement, the school district said a photo of a student with a weapon was sent to other students.

“The Cobb County School District Police Department quickly responded, investigated, and apprehended the students involved,” the district’s statement said. “The school is safe and secure.

“We take such actions very seriously and the resulting consequences from police and the District can be severe.”

Police say Andino entered McEachern’s campus but was not enrolled at the school.

While being searched at the Cobb jail after their arrests, both Andino and Cumberlander were found to have marijuana on their person, according to police. The two men were also charged with crossing the guard line with contraband and possession of a schedule I controlled substance.

Cumberlander was released Dec. 15 on a $10,000 bond, according to jail records, before being arrested and released again on May 9 in connection with the Powder Springs fight.

    Andino remains incarcerated.
