The Cobb County Water System reported an estimated 340 gallon wastewater sewer overflow occurred on July 19.

The overflow, resulting from grease, occurred at 1355 Hearthstone Way in Acworth and discharged into a tributary to Tate Creek.

The Water System was notified of the overflow on July 19 at 5:25 p.m. and the overflow was stopped on July 19 at 8:15 p.m.

Water System employees upon arrival observed a manhole spilling with the lid secured. The escaping sewage left a 5-foot by 30-foot gray trail that entered the tributary. After using a jet machine to unstop the sewer line, the crew spread lime on the affected area. During their time onsite, the crew did not observe any fish kills.

For more information, call the Cobb County Water System’s Maintenance Division at 770-419-6351.
