Six Million Gallons of Wastewater Dumped into Lake Allatoona

The Cobb County Water System is investigating a 6 million gallon waste water spill into Lake Allatoona.

According to the county, the dump occurred on Aug. 22. The effluent was treated at the Northwest Water Reclamation Facility but did not meet the Georgia Environmental Protection Division’s standards.

The spill will not impact drinking water supplies, did not require cleanup or remediation and has not led to any reported impacts to the lake.

“Plant operations staff is investigating the cause of the excursion and making necessary adjustments to ensure compliance with the discharge permit,” a Thursday press release from the county reads.
