This Tuesday, the Cobb Planning Commission will consider a proposed four-story student housing development near Kennesaw State University.

Atlanta-based developer Campus Realty Advisors is proposing a building with 154 student apartments and 460 bedrooms at 500 Chastain Center Boulevard, south of Chastain Road.

The units will range from studio apartments to four-bedroom units, with sizes between 547 and 1,397 square feet. According to the submitted site plan, the complex will also feature a swimming pool in the rear of the property.

The 8.7-acre property is currently being used as an office building, which Campus Realty plans to redevelop into a residential building. In order to build the complex, the developer is seeking both a rezoning and special land-use permit.

According to a June rezoning application, Campus Realty builds student housing communities throughout the southeast, including The Beacon in Marietta, which has had full occupancy since opening in 2022.

Zoning staff recommends that management be on-site for 24 hours per day, seven days a week and that the applicant coordinate with local law enforcement to develop a security plan.

Set to be heard in August, the case was delayed until the Planning Commission’s next meeting on Sept. 3.
