The Cobb County Water System reported an estimated 3,580 gallon wastewater sewer overflow occurred on Aug. 30.

The overflow, resulting from grease, occurred at 3625 Cumberland Boulevard in Atlanta and discharged into Rottenwood Creek.

The Water System was notified of the overflow on Aug. 30 at 8:36 p.m. and the overflow was stopped on Aug. 30 at 11:35 p.m.

Water System employees upon arrival observed a manhole spilling with an unsecured lid. The escaping sewage left a 20-foot by three-foot trail, entering a retention pond that empties into the creek. After a jet machine was used to unstop the line, the crew cleaned and spread lime on the affected area. During their time on-site, the crew did not observe any discoloration or fish kills.

For more information, call the Cobb County Water System’s Maintenance Division at 770-419-6351.
