ATLANTA – The Georgia Department of Transportation awarded 31 projects in July that focused on safety enhancements, resurfacing, bridge construction and rehabilitation.

The largest investment, valued at approximately $85 million, is dedicated to a safety project that involves widening and reconstructing 4.486 miles on State Route 162 in Newton and Rockdale counties. This contract, along with 19 other safety projects, accounts for 55% of the total awarded funds.

Six construction projects were awarded across Georgia, with the largest contract, valued at $20.6 million, designated for building a roundabout on SR 9 at AC Smith Road in Forsyth County. Another construction project involves constructing a 0.417-mile bridge and approaches on U.S. Highway29/SR 14 over the CSX Railroad in Fulton County. These projects, along with four other construction contracts, represent 22% of the total awarded funds.

Additionally, two resurfacing projects account for 16%, or approximately $34 million, of the total. The largest of these involves milling, inlay, and plant mix resurfacing over 6.146 miles of Interstate 285/SR 407, spanning from south of Paces Ferry Road to west of Long Island Drive in Cobb and Fulton counties.

Five percent of the awarded funds, approximately $17.5 million, is dedicated to a bridge construction project covering 0.483 miles on SR 54 over Bear Creek in Fulton County.

The remaining 2% of the funds are allocated to two bridge rehabilitation projects spread across Bulloch, Evans, Screven, Chatham, Jeff Davis, and Long counties, focusing on various locations within these areas.

A Design-Build project was awarded to Matthews–McLendon Joint Venture/Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering in the month of July in the amount of $74.5 million. The project will construct the interchange of I-16 at Old Cuyler Road. To learn more about this project, visit http://www.dot.ga.gov/PS/Innovative/DesignBuild.

The July awards bring the total construction contracts for Fiscal Year 2025 to $325 million. This total includes TIA, design-bid-build, design-build and locally administered projects. Fiscal Year 2025 began July 1.
