A Mableton man is accused of fatally shooting a woman in front of children, cleaning up the crime scene and then disposing of the bloody evidence.

Police say 26-year-old David Wells shot and killed Namarri Shackleford around 9 p.m. Sunday at the Mableton Ridge Apartment Complex, near City View Elementary School.

Wells then tried to cover up the crime, using linens and cleaning products to remove blood from the scene. According to his arrest warrant, Wells then "bagged the linens in garbage bags ... transported some of the bags to a dumpster in the apartment complex and placed some of them in a vehicle."

The arrest warrant does not detail the relationship between Shackleford, Wells or the children that witnessed the crime. The warrant does classify the crime as a case of domestic violence.

Wells was arrested Monday morning on charges of murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm as a felon, tampering with evidence and three counts of cruelty to children in the third degree.

He is being held in the Cobb Jail without bond.
