The hike is semi-strenuous so bring water and good shoes.Oct. 12 at 11 a.m. will be the Cheatham Hill History Walk. Participants can enjoy a casual, history-focused walk around one of the most significant sites of the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, hear accounts from Union and Confederate survivors, and fully experience the area that would earn the nickname of the “Dead Angle.” Parking will be at the end of Cheatham Hill Drive, which is tour stop 5 on brochure.Oct. 13 at 11 a.m. will be the Assault Trail Hike. Participants can experience the Union assault against the Confederate high ground of Cheatham Hill, as it happened and follow in the footsteps of the brave soldiers who fought at the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain 160 years ago. This hike is somewhat strenuous. Please have plenty of water and good shoes. Parking will be at the picnic area of Activity Area 3, which is tour stop 6 on brochure.Oct. 19 at 11 a.m. will be the Animals of Kennesaw Mountain. The program will be at the Visitor Center and is great for kids.Oct. 20 at 1 p.m. will be the Life of a Soldier Gear Layout. Life for the infantry soldier, Union or Confederate, was anything but easy. Long marches, bad food and worse living conditions made it tough going for these young men. The park will lay out the gear that made such intense campaigning possible. Participants will see period-correct uniforms, weaponry and even get up close and personal with artifacts from the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain.Oct. 27 at 11 a.m., noon, 2 and 3 p.m. will be Infantry Demonstrations. The Civil War was the first modern war in history, fought using tactics and techniques still relevant to the battlefield today.
