    MARIETTA — Marietta High School launched its homecoming week festivities with a senior cookout in the school’s courtyard Wednesday.

    Students were treated to a special lunch menu crafted by Chef David Garcia, including both beef and black bean burgers and chicken sandwiches.

    “We always like to do whatever we can to interact with our students, and this is the first time that we get to do a cookout for the seniors on their senior courtyard for homecoming,” said Marietta City Schools Nutrition Program Director Cindy Culver.

    Principal Marvin Crumbs said the cookout was a way to celebrate the senior class as they head into their final homecoming week as students.

    “It’s these guys’ last hurrah in high school for homecoming,” Crumbs said, looking out on the courtyard. “From this point forward, after this, they’ll be coming back as alumni.”

    The Marietta High School Homecoming Dance is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday, at the school. The homecoming football game will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Northcutt Stadium, when the Blue Devils are scheduled to face off against the Walton High School Raiders.

    Before the game, Marietta High School will hold its Homecoming Parade, bringing more than 20 floats and the homecoming court to the Marietta Square.

    The parade begins at 5:30 p.m. and will have brief road closures on portions of Dobbs, Cherokee, Roswell, Church, Lemon and Polk Streets.

    Drivers can expect traffic delays in the area.

    Other homecoming festivities open to the community include:

    ♦ Fan Fest, 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Northcutt Stadium Friday;

    ♦ Hall of Fame Inductee Recognition, 7:05 p.m. at Northcutt Stadium Friday.
