The Cobb County Water System has reported two sewer overflows.

The first was an estimated 490 gallon wastewater sewer overflow that occurred on Oct. 4.

The overflow, resulting from roots, occurred at 4009 Chelsea Lane NE in Marietta and discharged into Walden Creek.

The Water System was notified of the overflow on Oct. 4 at 10:35 a.m. and the overflow was stopped on Oct. 4 at 2:40 p.m.

Water System employees upon arrival found a manhole discharging sewage with its lid secure. The sewage from the manhole created a trail measuring three-feet by 20-feet leading into the waterway. The crew used a jet machine to clear the blockage from the main line and cleaned the spill area.

The second was an estimated 448,890 gallon wastewater sewer overflow that occurred Sept. 30 through Oct. 4.

The overflow, resulting from gravel, occurred at 2800 Cobb Galleria Parkway in Atlanta and discharged into a tributary of Rottenwood Creek.

The Water System was notified of the overflow on Sept. 30 at 10:43 a.m. and the overflow was stopped on Oct. 4 at 10:38 a.m.

Water System employees upon arrival found sewage in the tributary. The crew traced the sewage to a manhole at 2800 Cobb Galleria Parkway. The manhole was discharging sewage with its lid secured. The sewage from the manhole created a trail measuring one-foot by 20-foot leading down a slope to I-75. The sewage traversed the edge of I-75 South until it reached a storm drain system that conveyed the sewage to the tributary south of Cumberland Boulevard.
