Venezuelan citizen pleads guilty to possessing fraudulent green card
MACON – A Venezuelan citizen has admitted to possessing a fraudulent green card in federal court and will be sentenced in October. Diego Ibarra, 28, of Venezuela, pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of a fraudulent document before U.S. District Judge Tilman E. Self III. Ibarra faces a maximum of 10 years in prison to be followed by up to three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine per count. Ibarra remains in federal detention. Acworth Man Accused of Sexual Exploitation of a Child
Daniel Joseph Darius, 29, of Acworth, is accused of uploading two images and a seven-second video of juvenile girls engaged in sexually explicit conduct to a server belonging to Google on Aug. 3 at midnight at a residence at 570 Delphinium Boulevard in Acworth, according to an arrest warrant from the Cobb County Police Department. Darius is charged with three counts of child – sexual exploitation of a child. He was arrested July 11 at 5:10 p.m. and booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, according to jail records. Darius remains in custody without bond.
Marietta Woman Accused of Stealing from Home Depot
Elizabeth Annie Barbosa, 19, of Marietta, is accused of stealing $2,829 in cash from cash registers at the end of her shift as an employee of Home Depot on July 9 at 6:04 p.m. at the 449 Roberts Court location in Kennesaw, according to an arrest warrant from the Cobb County Police Department. Barbosa admitted to taking the cash over a two-week time period and there is video footage of the theft, according to the warrant. Barbosa is charged with theft by taking – greater than $1,500. She was arrested on July 9 at 6:33 p.m. and booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, according to jail records. Barbosa was released on a $2,500 bond.
Marietta Man Charged with Vehicular Homicide
Daniel Hunt, 28, of Marietta, is accused of operating a maroon/brown 2019 Ram 1500 Classic in a reckless manner that caused a crash with the victim’s vehicle on June 20 at 4:50 p.m. at the intersection of Barrett Parkway and Village Greene in Marietta. Hunt is also accused of doing 68 mph in a 45 mph zone, which was too fast for the evening traffic and limited visibility caused by the curves in the road, according to an arrest warrant from the Marietta Police Department. ...

Kennesaw Parks & Recreation Donates 1,500 School Supplies to Students
Kennesaw Parks & Recreation donated over 1,500 pieces of school supplies at the Back 2 School Jam on July 13 to support local students preparing for the upcoming school year. The supplies included book bags, pencils, pens and glue sticks. Kennesaw Parks & Recreation provided school supplies for 300 families in the community. In addition to providing essential school supplies, the event offered various health screenings to local students such as general health, postural and vision screenings. Parents had the chance to connect with local organizations that offer support throughout the school year and access to a variety of vendors providing services at no charge. The Back 2 School Jam featured face painting, inflatables and jewelry making. It also presented an exclusive opportunity for early registration for the next season of Kennesaw Hoops Youth Basketball. Resident registration will open on Aug. 5 and non-resident registration will open on Aug. 12.
HOPE Scholarship awards surpass $15 billion
ATLANTA – Georgia's HOPE Scholarship Program has awarded more than $15 billion to more than 2.1 million Georgia students since its inception in 1993, state officials announced. “After three straight years of record-breaking economic development, Georgians have more opportunity than ever before,” Gov. AUSTELL — City officials have proposed a monumental 106% property tax increase for 2024. The Austell City Council is set to vote on its 2024 millage rate after a final public hearing Monday evening. ATLANTA — One of the two newest nuclear reactors at Georgia Power's Plant Vogtle has been shut down due to a "valve issue," the Atlanta-based utility announced Tuesday.
