Amanda Packer and her daughter, Violet, take a moment to snuggle with Brie, a 3-month-old tortie kitten available for adoption at the Petco in West Cobb, 3805 Dallas Highway in Marietta. Special

Lots of smiles were served up on July 13 at the Petco in West Cobb for Pounce de Leon’s Kitten Palooza.

The community was invited to stop in to meet the kittens of Pounce and enjoy sweet treats while learning about adoptions and ways to help cats and kittens in need.

As the weather becomes warmer, kitten season goes into full swing. Because of the homeless cat crisis in Georgia, each year countless litters of kittens need safe homes along with spay and neutering to help break the cycle. Cat rescue groups like Pounce de Leon help these homeless cats.

“We are an all-volunteer group that is dedicated to helping homeless and abandoned cats. The shelters are overcrowded, so during the summer it is especially important to find homes for these cats and kittens,” said Daniel Weitz, co-founder of Pounce de Leon. “We don’t have a physical shelter space, so we are grateful to Petco and our network of foster homes for helping Pounce be able to serve our community by taking care of these vulnerable cats.”

The Kitten Palooza event was a success with several kittens headed for their new homes soon. More adoption events are in the works.
