Schools’ needs victim of Marin’s coming tax wave. It is disheartening, but also understandable, that a voter survey in the Ross Valley School District shows insufficient support for a supplemental parcel tax that would have helped pay for needed salary increases for K-8 classroom teachers (“Pollster: Ross Valley schools tax won’t sit well with voters,” June 30). The school board rightly, but reluctantly, backed away from putting a measure on the November ballot.
Petaluma Police Aid in Arrest of Felon with a Gun That Went to Ex-Girlfriend’s Home
Petaluma Police assist the Marin County Sheriff’s Office in arresting a wanted felon. Last Friday afternoon, police say convicted felon Justin Kiesselbach went to his ex-girlfriend’s home in unincorporated Novato and entered armed with a handgun looking for another man. After failing to find him, Kiesselbach left and the woman called 911. Petaluma Police found Kiesselbach at the Arroyo Shopping Center but he fled in a vehicle leading to a chase that lasted 6 minutes before he gave up. A firearm was found in the vehicle and another was found in Kiesselbach’s residence.
Italian attorneys for Bay Area man convicted in Rome officer death file motion for home detention
Italian attorneys for Marin County's Gabriel Natale-Hjorth have filed a motion requesting home detention for the 23-year-old.Last week, the court of appeals in Rome confirmed the murder conviction for Natale's friend, 24-year-old Finnegan Elder of San Francisco, but reduced his sentence of nearly 24 years in prison to 15 years, two months. The court found that two members of the Carabinieri, the Italian national police, were wearing plain clothes at the time of the incident and had not identified themselves properly. The judge also reduced Natale's conviction to what amounts to negligence and sentenced him to 11 years in prison.His...

The Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary stretches from Cambria up to Marin. It’s home to several species of marine mammals, giant kelp forests, tide pools… and plastic. To find out more about the plastic waste that makes its way into the ecosystem, sanctuary staff and volunteers are sampling the environment in a two-year study.
Santa Rosa Man Identified in Fatal Motorcycle Crash with Minivan in Marin County
A 22-year-old man from Santa Rosa has been identified as the motorcyclist killed in crash in Marin County last weekend. Emanuel Jimenez Romero died Sunday afternoon, after colliding head-on with a minivan in Inverness. The Marin County Sheriff’s Office says he was riding at a high speed when he crossed onto the wrong side of the road to get around slower traffic. That’s when he hit a Honda Odyssey. Jimenez Romero died after being ejected from the bike.
