Matthew Coller: J.J. McCarthy is following the path the Vikings' staff has paved
EAGAN — Does your brain also turn off when you hear the phrase, “trust the process?”. It has been uttered so many times by athletes, coaches and executives at this point that it’s reached the Mount Rushmore of sports cliches right next to “one game at a time.”
Canada's Pendrith charges late to seize PGA 3M Open lead
Canada's Taylor Pendrith, seeking his second title of 2024, birdied three of the last four holes to grab a two-stroke lead after Friday's second round of the PGA's 3M Open. Game 103: Twins at Tigers
I’m struggling to think of a trade deadline in recent memory with more roster churn than the Twins are experiencing now — and they haven’t even made a deal yet. With the health status of the 26-man in constant flux, the team has already returned Royce Lewis and Jose Miranda to the infield fold, with Carlos Correa due behind them in what is hopefully short order. As a result, folks like Edouard Julien have returned to the minors, and others like Kyle Farmer remain in IL limbo.
Jhonattan Vegas takes 3rd-round lead in 3M Open in bid for 1st victory since 2017
BLAINE, Minn. — Jhonattan Vegas birdied six of the final eight holes for an 8-under 63 and a one-stroke lead over Matt Kuchar on Saturday in the 3M Open. Vegas had a 16-under 197 total at the TPC Twin Cities. The 39-year-old Venezuelan has three PGA Tour victories, the last a successful title defense in the 2017 Canadian Open.
Twins reinstate Jose Miranda (back) from IL
The Minnesota Twins returned infielder Jose Miranda from his rehab assignment on Saturday and reinstated him from the 10-day injured list. Miranda missed the past nine games for the Twins with a low back strain. In two rehab games at Triple-A St. Paul, he went 3-for-6 with a double and two walks.
Postgame Quotes | July 26, 2024
“... relative to that, we were really pleased. We wanted to take some steps forward performance wise. I felt like we were very good value for at least a draw coming to the end of the game, if you take the last 10 minutes out of it, so in that sense we were really pleased. The biggest thing for me tonight was that we had a positive step [where] we felt like there was a performance that we could be proud of. We felt like with the group that we had, we were making progress and we had that. So as much as the result is frustrating and we’ll be really disappointed with the manner in which we lost the game, we were happy and there’s definitely something that we can take forward to Tuesday and something that we can take into the second half of the MLS season.”

Canadian Taylor Pendrith fired a 7-under 64 on the second day of action at the 3M Open in Blaine, Minn., to take a two-shot lead Friday. Now 12 under for the tournament, Pendrith built off a first-round 66, pocketing birdies on Nos. 4 and 7 before catching fire on the back nine. 'Down for the Challenge' happening at TCO Stadium
Saturday is the first time Vikings fans will get to see a public practice at TCO Stadium during training camp, but the Salvation Army is also hoping to get some attention at the Vikings Omni Hotel. People will be rappelling down the building for an extremely important fundraising event. The real "touchdown" is to help the 20,000 people the Salvation Army estimates to be without a home in Minnesota. Legendary Vikings wide receiver, Cris Carter shares why each dollar is so important, and how the event has grown into a “mini-state fair.”
Twins hit four home runs, pummel Tigers in series opener in Detroit
With one out in the top of the first inning, Byron Buxton took a first-pitch slider from Tigers starter Keider Montero and crushed it into the bullpen in left-center. Trevor Larnach followed that by lacing a 3-1 fastball over the wall in right. Just like that, back-to-back home runs had the Twins out to an early 2-0 lead in Detroit. Minnesota kept rolling from there, hitting four total homers to back a strong outing from Pablo Lopez in a 9-3 series-opening victory at Comerica Park on Friday night.
