MARINETTE — The Marinette High School softball team dropped games at home against Oconto Falls on Thursday and at Fox Valley Lutheran on Friday.

The Panthers topped the Marines 5-1 at Kimberly Clark Field while the Foxes scored a 10-5 victory on Friday.

On Friday, the Panthers immediately had the Marines on the ropes.

Oconto Falls loaded the bases with an error, a single and a walk, but Wynn Erdman worked out of the jam by striking out the side.

The game was scoreless until the third inning when Kyndra Staidl led off with a single and Keira Cole followed with a triple. Cole then scored on another Marinette error.

The Panthers pushed the score to 4-0 in the sixth inning. Lylia Leja drew a leadoff walk before Miranda Metzler roped a two-out RBI double and then scored on a single from Staidl.

Metzler meanwhile was in control in the circle, holding Marinette to just two hits through the first five innings.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Marines mounted an attack with doubles from Barrett Cole and Kaya Bodam, but Metzler limited the damage to just one run.

Oconto Falls tacked on an unearned run in the seventh, taking advantage of the fourth Marinette error of the day.

Metzler picked up the win after allowing one run on four hits and one walk while striking out an

    impressive 13 batters.

Erdman took the loss, surrendering five runs, four earned, on eight hits. The Marinette senior struck out seven and walked three on the day.

At FVL, the Marines continued to be plagued by defensive miscues, committing five more errors.

A pair of Marinette errors opened the door to three runs in the second inning.

The Marines responded in the top of the third, taking advantage of two FVL errors and scoring a pair of runs with a single from Bodam and a double from Lauren Pelon.

The Foxes got those runs back immediately in the bottom of the third. Natalie Bromm led off with a single and Alaina Krueger followed with a two-run home run.

The Marines came all the way back to tie the game at 5-5 with a two-out two-run double from Jada Diaz in the fourth inning and a two-out RBI double from Bodam in the fifth.

The Foxes put the game away with a five-run sixth inning.

After a leadoff error and a pair of walks, Bri Adamski had nearly worked of a bases loaded one-out jam inducing an infield popup for the second out, but Krueger, Brooklyn Blob and Olivia Fischer tagged three consecutive hits to drive in five and give FVL a healthy 10-5 advantage.

Adamski took the loss in relief of Erdman. She worked three innings and allowed five unearned runs on three hits and two walks while striking out one.

Bodam and Pelon each recorded a pair of hits including a double for the Marines.

    Due Up

The Marines, now 0-3, will seek their first victory of the young season when they host Little Chute today (Monday). That game is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. first pitch.
