Schreiner takes over as Marine girls rally past Tigers

    2024-04-26

WRIGHTSTOWN, WIS. — The Marinette High School girls soccer team rode the hot hand, or rather, foot, of Sierra Schreiner to a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over Wrightstown on Thursday.

The Tigers pounced on Marinette in the opening 40 minutes, building a 3-1 halftime advantage, but were unable to keep the Marines’ scoring savant under wraps forever.

After pumping in Marinette’s lone goal in the first half, Schreiner erupted for a hat trick after halftime, knocking in all three of the Marines’ goals to cap off the comeback charge.

Schreiner was responsible for all four of Marinette’s goals, with two of them coming on penalty kicks after Chloe Seymour and Josie Smerchek were fouled in the box.

Schreiner, the two-time reigning North Eastern Conference Offensive Player of the Year, has now scored 10 goals in the past three games.

Aiding Marinette’s cause was goalkeeper Lacy Carivou, who notched four saves in-goal on the afternoon.
