    Marines best Maroons in track and field border battle

    MARINETTE — The Marinette and Menominee High School track and field teams met at Higley Stadium for a dual meet on Tuesday.

    Marinette got the better of the border rivalry, winning both the boys and girls competitions.

    The Marinette boys defeated Menominee 76-65, while the Marine girls clipped the Maroons by a single point, 63-62.

    The teams combined to set 54 personal records on the day.

    The Marine boys took three of the four relays.

    Braxton Polzin, Luke Adams, Kaiden Brown and Elijah Wimbush won the 4x100-meter relay at 46.95 seconds. Brown, Polzin, Wimbush and Jackson Draheim won the 4x200m at 1:34.86, and Brown, Polzin, Draheim and Hunter Schneider closed the meet with a win in the 4x400m relay at 3:44.61.

    Caden Genrich swept the throws with a PR in the shot put of 47-05.00 and a discus toss of 136-11, and Jackson Draheim won the pole vault at 11-0.

    The Marines also got wins from Wimbush in the 100m dash (11.84 seconds) and Schneider in the 800m run 2:16.50.

    Menominee opened the action with Brayden Bourion, Caleb Barstow, Blake Bourion and Henry Zuehls winning the 4x800m relay with a tie of 9:35.91.

    Nathan Komp won both the 200m and 400m runs for the Maroons at 24.81 seconds and 53.08 seconds.

    Brayden Bourion won the 1600m run at 5:03.72 while Blake Bourion took the 3200m with a time of 12:22.90.

    Zander Jurkiewicz swept the hurdles, winning the 110m distance at 18.77 seconds and the 300m distance at 49.59 seconds.

    Darrent Butler scored big for the Maroons by sweeping all three jumps.

    The Maroon sophomore won the high jump at 5-10.00, the long jump at 16-09.00 and the triple jump at 36-00.00.

    The girls’ event could not have been closer.

    In 17 events, nine were won by the Maroons while eight were won by the Marines. However, Marinette still managed to eke out a 62-63 victory.

    The Marines opened the meet with a win in the 4x800m relay, where Madison Kunick, Anna Marzahl, Lauren Sadowksi and Addison Lacy carried the baton 3200m in 11:11.69.

    The Maroons took the remaining three relays.

    Erin Schuettpeltz, Richele Milostan, Lexi Marineau and Mackenzi Pesola won the 4x100m relay at 55.50 seconds. Erin and Emily Schuetttpeltz, Grianna Coduti and Pesola took the 4x200m relay at 2:02.89 and the Schuettpeltzes, Coduti and Marineau won the 4x400m in a time of 4:29.34.

    Pesola won the 100m dash in a time of 14.10 seconds.

    Marinette’s Keirsten Kabacinski and Bailey Krouth finished one-two in the 200m dash at 30.30 and 30.64 seconds. Krouth also won the 400m dash with a PR of 1:05.39.

    Anna Marzahl and Madison Kunick crossed the line first and second for Marinette in the 800m run with times of 2:42.35 and 2:45.79.

    Winley Brandt swept the distance runs for Menominee, taking the 1600m at 5:54.96 and the 3200m at 13:33.97.

    In the hurdles, Marineau won the 100m distance for Menominee at 18.48 seconds, while Hazel Knutson won the 300m distance for Marinette at 1:03.42.

    Nat Poquette swept the throws from Marinette. The Marine junior turned in a season-best 29-03.00 in the shot put and a PR of 93-03 in the discus.

    The Marines got a win from Sadowski with a pole vault of 6-06, while Lacy was second at 5-06.

    All three competitors in the high jump, Emily Schuettpeltz, Anna Marzahl and Erin Schuettpeltz, posted marks of 4-08, but Emily Schuettpeltz notched the win by clearing the height on her first attempt.

    Pesola took the long jump for Menominee at 14-06.25.
