    Marinette, Peshtigo tracksters punch tickets to Sectionals

    MEDFORD, Wis. — The Marinette and Peshtigo High School track and field teams competed in a WIAA Division 2 Regional competition in Medford on Monday.

    The two teams combined to post 37 WIAA Sectional qualifications. Athletes finishing in the top-four in each event qualified to compete in Thursday’s WIAA Division 2 Sectional in Colby, Wis.

    The Bulldogs notched an even 20 Sectional qualifiers while the Marines recorded 17.

    In the boys competition, the Marines finished third as a team with 99.5 points, ahead of Peshtigo’s 97.5, while Oconto Falls came away victorious at 124 points.

    The Panther girls made it a clean sweep by topping the field with 124 points while Peshtigo (79) was fourth and Marinette (39) was eighth.

    The Marinette boys advanced in all four relays.

    Jackson Draheim, Braxton Polzin, Kaiden Brown and Mason Hofherr finished as the runner-up in both the 800m and 1600m relays. The group moved the baton 800 meters in 2:33.70 and completed the 1600m relay in 3:36.83.

    In the 400m relay, Brown, Polzin, Mason Floriano and Elijah Wimbush placed third in a time of 45.78 seconds, and in the 3200m relay, Hunter Schneider, Nicholas Hruska, Evan Reines and Max Jacobson finished fourth at 9:07.70.

    Caiden Genrich and Frankie Marquardt added to Marinette’s effort by advancing in both throws.

    Genrich won the shot put with a heave of 49-06.00 while Marquardt was fourth at 41-09.75. In the discus, Genrich was the runner-up at 140-04 while Marquardt was fourth at 124-11.

    Jackson Draheim advanced in four different events. In addition to the 800m and 1600m relays, the Marine junior won the 800m run with a mark of 2:05.05 and advanced in the pole vault with a personal record vault of 12’0” that was good for third place.

    Hofherr advanced in two relays as well as the 200m dash where he was the runner-up with a time of 23.23 seconds.

    Elijah Wimbush placed third in the 100m dash at 11.55 seconds, on the heels of Peshtigo’s Tristan Krejcarek, who placed second at 11.51 seconds.

    The Bulldogs won the 400m relay where Krejcarek, Dathen Sechen, Ethan Brissette and Madison Vorpahl posted a time of 44.31 seconds.

    Peshtigo Advanced in the 1600m and 3200m relays as well.

    Brissette, Krejcarek, Vorpahl and Cody Nesberg finished third in the 1600m in 3:40.13, while Andrew Halfman, Malakai Yakel, Keelan Schmidt and Liam Smith ran the 3200m relay in 8:53.80 to place third.

    Nathan Kleikamp was the runner-up in both the 110m hurdles (16.74 seconds) and the 300m hurdles (42.01 seconds).

    Vorpahl notched a third-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 20.05.25. Yakel placed fourth in the 1600m run at 4:59.64. Nesberg was fourth in the 400m dash at 53.37 seconds, and Eli Berndt was fourth in the 3200m run at 11:02.19.

    The Bulldog girls placed third in the 400m dash where Alaina Archambault, Jaycee Mullines, Kylie Villas and Serenity Walden recorded a time of 53.66 seconds.

    Archambault also advanced as the runner-up in the 300m hurdles at 49.51 seconds and as the third-place finisher in the 100m dash at 13.11 seconds.

    Makai Levknect, Rachel Nelson, Mullins and Walden placed third in the 1600m relay at 4:21.71.

    Nelson also qualified in three events. She was the runner-up in the 1600m run at 5:29.50 and finished third in the 800m run at 2:32.19.

    Mullins placed third in the long jump with a mark of 15-02.50, and Sabel was third in the pole vault at 7-06.00.

    Christina and Athena Powers placed second and third respectively in the shot put at 37-02.00 and 32.04.50.

    Marinette advanced in both the 400m relay and the 3200m relay.

    Daisy Mercer, Bailey Krouth, Lauren Sadowski and Keirsten Kabacinski placed fourth in the 400m relay with a time of 54.64 seconds while Sadowski, Addison Lacy, Anna Marzahl and Madison Kunick ran the 3200m relay in 10:40.18.

    Krouth finished third in the 400m run at 1:05.83. Nat Poquette was third in the discus with a personal best toss of 99-09, and Marzahl placed third in the high jump at 4-08.00.
