IOLA, Wis. — Sectional play awaits the Marinette boys golf team after the Marines authored a strong showing in Monday’s WIAA Division 2 Regional playoff match at Glacier Woods Golf Course.
Henry Bailey led the Marines with a team-low score of 82 as Marinette shot a collective 352 on the afternoon, good for fourth place overall.
With the top-four teams making the cut for Sectionals, Marinette earned the right to keep its season going for at least one more week.
Mosinee won the team Regional championship with a combined 318, with Jett Walters pacing the Indians with a low-round score of 73 en route to the individual Regional title.
New London finished second behind Mosinee with a 324, while Oconto Falls took third after turning in a scorecard of 349.
Peshtigo finished eighth with a combined score of 416.
Marinette’s Brady Eastman finished one stroke behind Bailey with an 83, putting him in a four-way tie with Michael Benjamin of Amherst and Mosinee’s Will Grable and Jadon Sorge for 10th place.
Peshtigo’s Nick Mans punched his ticket to Sectionals in individual competition after finishing his afternoon tied with Marinette’s Corey Cohan for 18th place at 90.
Bryce Gamelin shot a 97 to take 30th overall, while an even 100 by Luke Noel put the Marinette senior in 35th place and wrapped up the day for the Marine boys.
Silas Williams was hot on Mans’ heels with a score of 91, good for 20th overall. Peyton Demmith (93) finished 25th overall and Maddox Levknecht shot 142 for the Bulldogs.
Joining Mans in making the cut for individual Sectional play were Benjamin, Waupaca’s Dylan Smith (76) and Wittenberg-Birnamwood’s Joe Seegmiller (79).
Teed upMarinette and Peshtigo will compete in the WIAA Division 2 Sectionals, which takes place May 28-29 at Northbrook Golf Course in Luxemburg, Wis.
