OSHKOSH, Wis. — Former Marinette High School softball standout Sydney Nemetz is powering the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Titans to the best season in program history.

The Titans have advanced to the NCAA Division III Super Regional round where they will take on defending National Champion Trine University (Ind.) in a three-game series beginning Thursday.

Nemetz, who led Marinette to the WIAA State Semifinals in 2021, is now a junior at Oshkosh.

She has been named First-Team All-WIAC for a third time in her career as well as First-Team All-Region (NFCA Region VIII).

This season she has put together a record of 19-2 with an ERA of 1.25 and a minuscule WHIP of 0.87. She has recorded 157 strikeouts against only 32 walks in 139.2 innings pitched.

The Titans are currently ranked 12th nationally with an overall record of 42-4. Their 42 wins are the most in program history, smashing the previous record of 36 set just last year, and they are just one win shy of matching the WIAC record of 43 wins in a single season set by UW-Whitewater in 1998.

With a conference record of 12-2, they were crowned WIAC Regular Season champions, though they finished second in the WIAC Tournament.

The Titans defeated College of St. Benedict (twice) and Illinois Wesleyan University in last weekend’s Regional playoff round, while Nemetz was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.

She pitched in all three games picking up two wins and allowing four runs on 12 hits in 15 innings of work. She struck out 12 and walked only one in her three appearances.

In her collegiate career, Nemetz holds a record of 46-9 with five saves and an ERA of 1.69 in 68 appearances. She has struck out 335 batters while walking 81 in 347 innings.

Now, Nemetz and the Titans turn their attention to the defending NCAA Division III Champions.

Trine enters the Super Regional ranked fourth in the nation. The Thunder are also a 40-win team with a record of 42-3.

This is their third consecutive Super Regional appearance.

They boast an all-time record of 10-2 in the Super Regional round, having advanced to the NCAA Division III World Series in five of their previous six attempts.

Game one of the best-of-three series is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start in Angola, Ind., on Thursday. Game two will be played at 1 p.m. on Friday with game three to follow, if necessary.
