Marinette Legion starts fast but fades in loss to Bay Port

    2024-06-19

GREEN BAY — Unable to sustain its fast start, the Marinette Legion baseball team succumbed to Bay Port 10-4 on Tuesday.

Post 39 did all of its damage in the top of the first inning, as Chase MacGregor and Weston Hanson led off the frame with back-to-back singles before a walk issued to Ethan Doubek loaded the bases for Marinette.

Logan Kurth was hit by a pitch, which allowed MacGregor to come around and touch home plate for the first run of the night before Justin Kruse cashed in with a three-RBI double to put Post 39 on top 4-0.

Marinette collected three base knocks in the first inning but failed to add to that total over the course of the six frames, with free passes to MacGregor, Kolton Goldsmith and Hanson representing Post 39’s only other base runners.

Due upMarinette: Post 39 (1-4 overall) will compete in the Gregg Johnson/Al Erickson Memorial Tournament today (Friday) through Sunday in Escanaba and Gladstone. Marinette begins the tournament with a game against Niagara in Esky at 10:30 a.m.
