WASHINGTON, D.C. — A group of Marinette Middle School 7th and 8th grade students traveled to Washington D.C. in late May for a three-day touring experience.

Students were joined by two MMS staff members and five parents/grandparents. The trip included an engaging tour of our nation’s capital city and surrounding areas. Students had the opportunity to fly, dine at some fun restaurants, and learn to navigate through new places. With a lively tour guide and bus driver, students learned many new and interesting facts as they visited monuments, memorials, museums and historical sites. All were impacted by the first-hand reality of the Holocaust Museum after spending time learning extensively about it in 7th grade.

The positive attitudes and engagement of the students were an excellent representation of MMS, according to MMS principal Matthew Hartin. He said chaperones received compliments from other adults about the respect and courtesy our students showed throughout the trip.

“Our gratitude goes to the numerous local businesses that gave us fundraising opportunities and generous donations,” Hartin said in a press release. “All of this added to the tremendous success of this trip.

He gave thanks to the Marinette School Board, MMS Administration, Waupaca Foundry, Menza and Zac, Lion’s Club, MHS Booster, Culvers, McDonald’s and Jack’s Fresh Market Marinette and Menominee locations.

“This trip was an enjoyable time and an excellent learning experience,” the release states. “This will be embedded into the student’s memories for a lifetime.”
