Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 34-year-old Joshua Benjamin on an Illinois Department of Corrections warrant. Benjamin told jail officials he was homeless. Salem Police arrested 27-year-old Matthew Harris of Iuka Road in Iuka for misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Harris was taken into custody after the Salem canine alerted on a bag attached to his bicycle during a traffic stop at College and Rogers around 11 Tuesday night. The initial traffic stop was for not having a light on his bike.
All boil orders lifted following Saturday waterline break in rural Iuka
Boil orders have now been lifted for the Northeast Marion County Water Company, FMC Water System and the Patoka, Iuka, Xenia, Farina, and Alma water systems following the weekend waterline break.

A 43-year-old Salem man has been arrested for unlawful restraint and battery after allegedly chasing a man with a 2 by 4. Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies say the incident occurred late Tuesday morning in the 300 block of East Olive. Deputies had to allegedly chase Michael Bartley to behind the Salem Public Works shed by the railroad tracks before taking him into custody. Bartley was taken to the Marion County Jail.

Fire Damages Vacant Nursing Home
A Friday afternoon fire caused damage to a vacant nursing home in Centralia. According to reports out of Marion County, the fire started early Friday afternoon at the former Friendship Nursing Home in Centralia. Firemen were first called to the scene a little after 12:30 p.m., and upon arrival, found the northeast part of the building in flames. There was concern for a time due to oxygen bottles still in the building.

Manhunt for 86-year-old Centralia man ends successfully
A manhunt for an 86-year-old Centralia man who walked out the back door of his home on Webster Creek Road and didn’t return ended quickly and successfully Monday night. The Marion County Sheriff’s Department says the family was concerned because the man suffered from dementia, hearing loss and can only see out of one eye.
