NB I-65 reopens at North Split after overturned semi leads to long closure

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — All lanes of northbound I-65 were back open by 2 p.m. Wednesday after an overturned semitruck forced police to shut down traffic for more than seven hours.

Police closed the interstate and the Pine Street exit ramp after the accident, which happened sometime after 4 a.m. just south of the Meridian/Pennsylvania Street exit. The overturned truck was on the right two lanes and part of the left lane, forcing drivers to drive on the shoulder to avoid the truck’s cab and emergency crews that were at the scene.

Traffic was diverted onto eastbound I-70, leading to long delays and a significant backup.

Police have not said what caused the truck to roll over or if there were any injuries when the semi overturned.
