Marion, Va. man convicted of first-degree murder for “premeditated” 2023 Easter shooting

MARION, Va. (WJHL) — A man charged in a 2023 Easter Sunday shooting was convicted of first-degree murder on Friday, according to the Smyth County, Virginia Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
A release Saturday from the commonwealth’s attorney said Jacob Seth Andreshak, 33, was convicted by a Smyth County jury for the “premediated murder” of Charles Jonathan Wojciechowicz, 40, of Atkins.
The release said the “cold-blooded killing” of Wojciechowicz took place on Easter in 2023. Smyth County Sheriff Chip Shuler previously said in a release that police were called to Remington Lane in Marion, where they reported finding Wojciechowicz deceased from a gunshot wound.
Andreshak is scheduled for sentencing on Oct. 31, where he faces the possibility of life in prison plus three years, according to the release.
Smyth County Commonwealth’s Attorney Phillip Blevins provided the following statement:
This verdict sends a clear message that violence and disregard for human life will not be tolerated. Andreshak’s actions were evil, calculated and malicious. I hope this conviction brings a measure of solace to the family and friends of Mr. Wojciechowicz. This conviction is a testament to the tireless work of Smyth County Sheriff’s Office, Marion Police Department, and forensic experts who assisted my Chief Deputy Keith Blankenship and I during the trial.
I extend my deepest gratitude to the jurors for their diligence and commitment throughout this multi-day hearing. Their decision reflects the strength of the evidence presented and the severity of the crime committed.
My office is committed to seeking justice for victims and holding perpetrators accountable for their actions. We remain dedicated to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety of Smyth County for years to come.
