MARION, Va. (WJHL) — A fire at a bank in Marion left the building damaged by smoke and water.

According to Town of Marion spokesperson Ken Heath, crews with Marion Fire/EMS and Smyth County Public Safety were called to a possible structure fire shortly before noon on Tuesday.

Firefighters responded to the main office of the Bank of Marion in the 100 block of Main Street.

Heath reported that crews found the source of the fire on the roof of the building.

As of 2 p.m., the fire had been contained. However, the fire caused “moderate smoke and water damage to the building,” according to Heath.

Crews were still on the scene at 2 p.m., and downtown Marion traffic was expected to remain congested for a time.
