AVOYELLES PARISH, La. ( WNTZ ) – A Marksville man was arrested over the weekend in connection with the shooting death of his 76-year-old grandfather, the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office announced Sunday.

Zachary Stephen Bullitt, 26, is accused of the first-degree murder of 76-year-old Nellie Whitstine Rousseau, of Marksville, authorities said. Bullitt is also facing a charge of obstruction of justice.

The Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a social media post that the homicide was reported Saturday afternoon.

The investigation remains ongoing.

The sheriff’s office noted in its announcement that persons named or shown in photographs and/or videos as suspects in a criminal investigation, or arrested and charged with a crime, have not yet been convicted of that criminal offense and all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
