Marlin ISD has openings for Board of Managers

The Marlin ISD School Board of Managers met Monday, Oct. 7 at the Marlin Middle School Library. In the absence of the president, Secretary Byrleen Terry presided over the meeting. Board Managers present were Misty Ehlers, Rosalyn Dimerson, Marsha Ridlehuber, and Dr. Darryl Henson, Superintendent of Schools. Managing Conservator Dr. Rolando Trevino was in attendance.

The Board of Managers went into closed session to discuss the Superintendent’s Evaluation and Contract.

The open session resumed with President Billy Johnson presiding.

The Superintendent’s Reports followed with Jesse Bustamante, Chief Operating Officer, who presented the Bond 2022 update.

Press box structural steel columns and beams and flooring are completed. The structural steel stair fabrication is taking place off-site.  A test run was completed on the new scoreboard with only a few needed adjustments. The Bulldog mascot statue is ready for delivery. Oct. 25 continues to be the anticipated date for the first home game (Homecoming) at Legion Field. It’s a great possibility that the press box may not be completed.

Dr. Stacy Parker, Chief Financial Officer, continued with the Superintendent’s Reports. She shared the Campus Improvement Plan to include a Marlin Opportunity Center where 100% of the seniors will graduate with a CCMR designation.

Dr. Henson commented on the Resolution of the Board Regarding Board Member Elections: Temporary Change of Single-Member Districts and At-Large Positions. He explained that seven elected members (5 single-members districts and 2-at-large) are needed to serve as Board of Trustees by January 2026. Because recruitment efforts have not yielded any potential candidates in districts four and five, the potential candidates have two weeks to apply, otherwise, it will be recommended to the Board of Managers to combine two and five into a single district (District 2) and three and four into a single district  (District 3) for the May 2025 election cycle.

J. Adam LeJeune, Executive Director of Technology, presented miscellaneous pictures of present data cabling. With an expected cost of $100K-$150K for full re-wire and considering the timeframe, LeJeune noted rewiring before the ceiling is completed is more economical.

Dr. Henson recommended the Educentric program which is a leading provided of education and career services for students. (CCMR: College, Career, and Military Readiness). In addition, Dr. Henson discussed “The Future of Marlin-Vision 2025” strategic plans including Early Literacy, Middle Math and CCMR. He noted the availability of a $100K grant-funding for A School Breakthrough Performance Mold.

Misty Ehlers moved to approve the consent items, seconded by Marsha Ridlehuber, the motion carried. The next Board meeting is Monday, Oct. 21, at 5 p.m.
