Community Garden Club of Marlin Celebrates 100 Years
The Community Garden Club in Marlin is celebrating100 years on March 11 from 1-3:00 p.m. It is the oldest registered, continuous performing garden club in the State of Texas! The public is invited to join in this celebration to be held at the Historic Allen House, 305 Ward St., Marlin,Texas. Charlotte Weiss will present “Monarch Migration” at 1 p.m. A silent auction, donation table, and historical documents will be exhibited. There will be refreshments for all. Bulldogs headed for postseason play
The Marlin Bulldogs basketball team hosted the Bremond Tigers on Feb. 8. Marlin fell to the Tigers in a 43-40 nailbiter. After a couple scoreless minutes, Marlin scored first with a floater by Roderick Suiters (1) for a 2-0 lead. Bremond went on a 7-0 scoring run to go ahead of the Bulldogs 7-2. Lady Dogs fall to Moody in playoffs
, The season ended for the Marlin Lady Bulldogs basketball team on Monday night in the first round of the playoffs. The ladies traveled to University High School in Waco for the bi-district round of the playoffs. They took on the Moody Lady Bearkats, and were defeated 41-32 to bring their season to an end. The Falls County Commissioners Court met at the County Courthouse in Marlin on Feb. 13 with County Judge Jay Elliott presiding. Commissioners present were Milton Albright (Pct. 1), F. A. Green (Pct. 2), Jason Willberg (Pct. 3) and Nita Wuebker (Pct. 4). After returning from Executive Session, Emergency Service District (ESD) updates were discussed. The Marlin ISD Board of Managers met on Jan. 23 at the Marlin Middle School Library with President Billy Johnson presiding. Board Managers present were Misty Ehlers, Byrleen Terry, Dr. Darryl Henson, Superintendent of Schools and Dr. Jim Vaszauskas, TEA Conservator. Justice Kaylah Rosas was appointed to the office of Justice of the Peace for Precinct 1 in Falls County, Texas in February 2021 and was on the ballot unopposed in the general election on November 8, 2022. Over 25 people were present at the Emergency Service District #1 meeting Jan. 23, 23 at the Falls Community Hospital Board Room with Wayne Young presiding. After discussing the options and pros/cons of the ambulatory services in Falls County, the group voted to offer a one-year contract to AMR insuring at least one ambulance in Falls County. MSSLC employees expect pay increases in March
Employees of the 23 state-supported living centers and hospitals overseen by the Health and Human Services Commission, including Mexia SSLC, will see significant pay raises in March. Nearly 3,500 employees left the workforce since March 2020, said Scott Schalchlin, Health and Specialty Care System deputy executive commissioner. “That means we’re serving fewer people in the state hospitals because we’ve had to take beds offline,” Schalchlin said. “In the state-supported living centers, it’s made it more of a challenge. The Falls County Booker T. Washington & Ex-Students Educational Association (BTWAEEA) National Chapter will be awarding scholarships to five graduating seniors from Marlin High School in 2023. A member of the BTWAEEA National Scholarship Committee attended a meeting in October that was held at MHS. The meeting was attended by students from the senior class, their parents, counselors, and other members of the school staff.
