Community Garden Club hosts The Garden Party
On May 19, 2024, the Community Garden Club of Marlin created an exciting fundraising event called the “Garden Party” at the historic Allen House. This festivity to relish in the season’s gifts of blooming flowers was enthusiastically embraced by all attending. Each guest was presented with a special-made cookie made by Madison Douglas. It was a homemade sugar cookie with royal white icing adorned with a single flower design. Each cookie had a different color flower. Flood victims urged caution upon returning home
As East Texas residents return to clean up their homes and businesses after extensive flooding earlier this month, the Texas Department of State Health Services urged residents and business owners to exercise caution. Among the recommendations: · Never use gasoline-powered generators or charcoal grills indoors. Keep them outside, at least 20 feet from homes to avoid possible carbon monoxide poisoning. A 2nd Annual Mother-Daughter Tea Party was held at Faith, Hope and Charity “Concerned Citizens Organization for Youth, Inc.” at 405 E. Spate of tornadoes far outpaces the average
April was a busy month for tornadoes across the United States with 373 recorded, bringing the total for the year to 549, the Austin American-Statesman reported. That is nearly double the average at this point in the year, the National Weather Service says. Texas, as usual, is a leader in tornadic activity, with 14 tornadoes reported within a 24-hour span in Central and East Texas during a spring storm in late April. The growth of industrial-scale users of power could strain the Texas power grid, ERCOT’s chief announced last week. The Dallas Morning News reported Pablo Vegas, the agency’s CEO, said bitcoin miners and artificial intelligence data centers going in across the state, as well as industrial growth in the Permian Basin, could create the need for a massive buildup of power transmission lines in the future. ‘Aggressive’ hurricane forecast for Gulf Coast
Colorado State University researchers are calling this year’s hurricane season forecast “the most aggressive” ever, the Texas Standard reported. They say there is a 54% chance a hurricane will strike the Texas coast, and a 25% chance it will be major. Rogers looking for success with Bulldogs
Last year, the Marlin Bulldogs had a fantastic season. They finished with an overall record of 11-3 and a perfect district record of 7-0, winning their first district championship since 2005. With Coach Ruben Torres leaving, the Bulldogs have promoted defensive coordinator, Jeff Rogers, as the new head coach. Rogers is also a member of the Texas State 7-on-7 Board of Directors.
