Golden Years celebrates new outpatient therapy gym
On March 20, 2024, Golden Years Nursing & Rehabilitation celebrated the Grand Opening of their new Outpatient Therapy Gym. While Golden Years has provided excellent Skilled Nursing care in Marlin for over 60 years, they recently expanded their therapy department to fill the gap that was left with the closing of the Falls Community PT department. They are offering physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy in an outpatient setting. They start seeing patients as early as 6 a.m. to accommodate everyone’s work and school schedules. A few specialty treatments offered are the BIG Program for Parkinson’s and BVVA for vertigo. They...

The Falls County Commissioners Court met at the County Courthouse on Monday, March 25, with County Judge Jay Elliott presiding. Commissioners present were Milton Albright (Pct. 1), F.A. Green (Pct. 2), Jason Willberg (Pct. 3). Nita Wuebker (Pct. 4) was not in attendance. Regarding the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), Jerri Gauntt of Grantworks, reported several non-profits were not in compliance noting funds allocated had not been spent. Rotary: Goodwill and Better Friendships
A presentation by Rotarian Kurt Rutz on March 13, 2024, engaged members in a discussion of “What is Lent? Its Meaning and Importance Explained”. Each week a member of the Rotary Club of Marlin produces a presentation or a guest speaker on a vital topic. This club connection gives members the chance to develop skills like public speaking, project management, and event planning. Acquaintances of interesting people from the community and around the world are made. Members tackle local and international issues that are important to individuals and fellow club members. Weekly programs “promote integrity and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through [the] fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders.” Each week, Rotarians repeat The Four-Way Test: Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned? Like 1.4 million Rotarians worldwide, members of Rotary Club of Marlin replicate, “Service Above Self and One Profits Most Who Serves Best”. What is next? Town Hall meeting held for Precinct 3 discussion
A public Pct. 3 Town Hall meeting was held March 18 at the Marlin City Hall. Medicinal and/or edible plants abound! Following a presentation by Garden Club member and local Librarian Sarah Payne at the Community Garden Club meeting on March 15 a quest began, “Foraging Texas for Medicinal Plants.” The search has revealed consumable and beneficial species of plants flourishing throughout neighborhood backyards - and front - in Marlin, Texas! On Wednesday, March 6, 2024, in recognition of Women’s History Month, Rotarian Maggie Majors had the honor of presenting Rhonda Milton, Dean of Elementary Students Marlin ISD, and Byrleen Terry, Executive Director of Marlin Housing Authority. These distinguished women of the community of Marlin, Texas, were speakers at the Rotary Club of Marlin. Hay, feed, fencing supplies needed to support Panhandle wildfire victims
Donations of hay, feed, fencing supplies, cow feed and milk replacer are needed to support livestock owners impacted by the devastating wildfires that have scorched ranchland across a large portion of the Texas Panhandle. The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service is establishing Animal Supply Points in several locations in the region to accept the donations. The purpose of the Animal Supply Point is to meet area producers’ most critical needs such as providing feed for cattle while they assess their individual operation’s other needs. Faith, Hope & Charity is a good and faithful neighbor. On Saturday, March 3, FHC once again opened its doors at its original location on 514 Quaid Street, Marlin, to the public. It offered free coats and jackets for children. There were two long racks of new winter jackets and two-plus racks of gently-worn jackets and coats. While it is announced as a Coat Giveaway, this outpouring of ‘neighbor helping neighbor’ included adult clothing, shoes, and, importantly, friendly conversation. Dairy producers are optimistic 2024 will be better after recent rains offered the promise of more feed and forage production following back-to-back years of drought-related challenges, according to a Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service expert. Bulldogs fall to LaPoyner in Area
The Marlin Bulldogs basketball team traveled to Robinson on Tuesday February 20 for the Bi-District round of the playoffs. They took on the Bosqueville Bulldogs, and Marlin defeated them 65-38 to advance. The Bulldogs traveled out to Navarro College in Corsicana on Friday, Feb. 23 to face the LaPoynor Flyers in the area round. Marlin fell to LaPoynor 74-65 to bring their season to an end. With this defeat, Marlin finishes the season with an impressive overall record of 18-5 and a perfect district record of 14-0.
