The Marlin Bulldogs football team traveled to Crowley ISD Stadium in Fort Worth on Friday, Nov. 24, for the regional round of the playoffs. They took on the Tioga Bulldogs and were victorious, handily beating them 46-14 to advance and keep their season alive. Marlin played shutout football in the first half, going into halftime winning 12-0. Texas peanut production up this season
Back-to-back seasons of drought continue to impact planted peanut acres making it another tough year for Texas peanut growers, according to a Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service expert. Emi Kimura, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension state peanut specialist, Vernon, said producers who were able to keep their crop under irrigation throughout the drought were able to maintain growth and produce average yields per acre. However, for those who were not able to keep up with moisture demands during a second season of drought and extreme heat suffered another rough season. The Marlin Bulldogs are Area champs after defeating Coleman on Nov. 16. The Marlin football team traveled to Memorial Stadium at Tarleton State University in Stephenville for the area round of the playoffs. The Falls County Commissioners Court met at the County Courthouse in Marlin on Monday, Nov. 13, 2023, with County Judge Jay Elliott presiding. Avian influenza not expected to disrupt Thanksgiving turkey prices and stock
After just a three to four month break from avian influenza, the poultry industry is reeling again from another outbreak that has swept across the U.S., but this one isn’t expected to disrupt holiday turkey prices as much as last year. The outbreak began in early October, said Greg Archer, Ph.D., Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service poultry specialist and associate professor in the Texas A&M Department of Poultry Science, Bryan-College Station. The Marlin Bulldogs football team defeated the Valley Mills Eagles 28-21 on Friday, Nov. 3, securing their first district championship since 2005. Superheroes attend District Workshop
Members of the Falls County Retired Teachers Chapter recently attended the Fall Workshop at the Region 12 Education Service Center in Waco. The theme, “Superheroes for 70 Years” commemorates the number of years of advocating for improving benefits for all education retirees and promotes the well-being of all its members. Jo Ann Sugg of Coryell County is the District 12 President. Elizabeth Richardson represented the local chapter as District 12 Retirement Education Chair. The fiscal year report indicated chapters volunteered 285,000 hours in community service, 10,000 in book donations to elementary schools and in twelve chapters, $15,000 in scholarships. The members are gearing up for the April 15-17, 2024, TRTA State Convention in Corpus Christi. FC TRTA Membership is open to retirees who receive a monthly annuity from Teacher Retirement System (TRS). However now, it is not limited for teachers only. The Marlin Bulldogs football team traveled to take on the Rosebud-Lott Cougars on Friday, Oct. 20. Marlin shut out the Cougars, winning 34-0. The Bulldogs were in complete control of the entire first half, entering halftime with a commanding 27-0 lead. Lady Bulldogs defeat Chilton Lady Pirates 3-2
The Marlin Lady Bulldogs volleyball team hosted the Chilton Lady Pirates on Friday. The Lady Bulldogs avoided the reverse sweep and defeated Chilton 3-2. Marlin won the first set 25-21, won the second set 26-24, lost the third set 27-25, lost the fourth set 25-17, and won the fifth set 18-16. With this win, Marlin now has a record of 12-11 and a district record of 1-4.
