The Marlin ISD School Board of Managers (BOM) met Monday, May 6, at the Marlin Middle School Library with President Billy Johnson presiding. Board Managers present were Misty Ehlers, Byrleen Terry, Rosalyn Dimerson, Marsha Ridlehuber, and Dr. Darryl Henson, Superintendent of Schools.
The Board of Managers (BOM) went into Executive Session pursuant to Texas Government Code Sections 551.074, deliberation of personnel matters to include the recommendation to hire Dean of Instruction, Marlin Elementary School.
After returning from Executive Session, Superintendent’s Reports were presented. Jesse Bustamante shared Bond 2022 updates to include the press box, Legion Field electrical and site-work, and Marlin High School. The heavy rains have delayed progress, but projects are ongoing. Bustamante gave accolades to the Boys and Girls Track Teams. Keundra Wilson won the Girls’ 100-meter 2A State Championship and was awarded a Gold medal. The Boys’ placed in the 2A 4x100.
Dr. Stacy Parker Knight, Chief Operating Officer, presented an overview of the Texas Education Agency Graduation Toolkit. Distinguished Level of Achievement requires twenty-six credits including Algebra II. Students are eligible for top 10 percent automatic admissions to Texas Public Universities. The Foundation High School Program requires 22 credits and one endorsement including fourth credit of Math and Science and two additional electives. The endorsements include upcoming STEM program, Business & Industry, Public Service, Arts and Humanities and Multi-Disciplinary Studies.
Dr. Parker Knight stressed the importance of attendance. Students are required by law to attend at least 180 days of instruction. To receive credit for a course, students are required to attend school for at least 90 percent of the days the class is offered. Marlin High School graduation is June 20, 2024.
Presently, there are 56 active seniors with 53 on track and three slightly off track. Parents/guardians of students slightly off track are informed. The last senior parent meeting was April 15. One-on-one senior parent meetings are scheduled for May. Parents are strongly encouraged to address concerns with campus leadership. An estimated total of over $2 million available for anticipated scholarships to MHS seniors. Over fifty college acceptance letters have been received.
Dr. Parker Knight announced $400 million in funding has been made available to TEA to assist school districts in replacing or upgrading doors, windows, communications, and other safety measures. The rekeying of the interior locks was recommended by the MISD Safety and Security team. Fairway Supply, Inc. was awarded the $90,014.78 contract
Marsha Ridlehuber moved to approve the agenda items presented, seconded by Byrleen Terry, the meeting was adjourned.
