Service Above Self and One Profits Most Who Serves Best, Rotary’s official mottoes, can be traced back to the early days of the organization.

On May 22, 2024, Rotary Club of Marlin was honored to induct Charlotte Beth Mullins as a new member of Rotary Club of Marlin and Rotary International. Beth, standing between Membership Chair Rockney Terry and Marlin Rotary Club President Letitia Estep, agreed to keep constantly before her the primary object of Rotary, “Service Above Self”.

Rotary Club President Letitia Estep introduced Charlotte Beth Mullins. Beth was born in Rosebud, Texas. Even though she recently moved from Marlin to Riesel, she calls Marlin, Texas, her home.

“I graduated from Marlin High School in 1961,  at age 10!!!!!” she wrote.

Beth earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Sam Houston University and a Master of Education from Central  State University in Edmond Oklahoma. Beth holds a Journalism  certificate from Baylor and from Texas Tech.

Teaching during 45 years, Beth taught every grade level from preschool to college sophomores in US Department of Defense Schools in Germany and Okinawa and in Texas and Oklahoma public and private schools. In Marlin, she taught at the Episcopal Day School, Marlin Elementary School, and Marlin High School.

Beth taught college classes in Journalism, English, and Speech and Test Preparation at McLennan Community College and Texas State Technical College.

Beth taught GED classes at the prisons in Marlin (both male and female) and at Texas Youth Commission in Marlin and Mart. Beth Mullins was honored as Teacher of the Year for Windham School District (all prison schools make up this district). She was regional Windham Teacher of the Year three different years.

Beth Mullins recalled, “My last year at Windham, I was honored to be a member of Leadership America representing Texas. I also was chosen to  receive the GED Lifetime Achievement Award for 2007 presented by the American Council of Education.”

Beth Mullins is devoted to her family. Her daughters are Kara Kirkpatrick Kenny and Katherine Kirkpatrick Stone. Her grandchildren are Kristen Kenny Morris and Matthew Kenny.

Beth is passionate also for gardening, horses and riding, her four spoiled fur babies (dogs), and playing bridge!

Rotarians live by the 4-Way Test: 1) Is it the truth? 2) Is it fair to all concerned? 3) Will it build goodwill and better friendship? 4) Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Rotary Club President Letitia announced, “With the presentation of this Rotary Pin, I declare you to be a member of the Rotary Club of Marlin. Here is your lapel pin- wear it proudly. With this pin you can attend meetings of any Rotary Club in the world.”

The Rotary Club of Marlin most heartily offered Charlotte Beth Mullins the right hand of Rotary Fellowship. The principles and objects of Rotary will be safe in her keeping.
